A tension headache is the most common type of headache, and many people suffer from it. It is not surprising as many people are on their screens for a long time – either for work or personal use. Some people also experience tension headaches because of too much stress.
People with tension headaches experience dull head pain, pressure around the forehead, or tenderness around the forehead and scalp. The pain is often mild or moderate, but it can also be intense. Fortunately, there are many natural remedies for relieving tension headaches:
One of the best quick fixes for headaches is peppermint oil. Peppermint oil is a great remedy for tension headaches because it contains menthol, which can ease muscle tension and pain. Peppermint oil is best applied on your skin with a carrier oil, such as almond oil. But if you don’t have a carrier oil, you can use small amounts of peppermint oil and tread lightly. It is generally safe, but large doses can be toxic. (Related: 10 ways peppermint oil improves your health.)
You can use peppermint oil as a breathing mask. Put two to three drops of the oil on your palm and gently rub your palms together. Placing your palms about three inches from your face, close your eyes and inhale deeply through your nose. Lower your palms as you exhale. Repeat this breathing pattern until you feel some relief.
Peppermint oil is available at your local health store or online. There are some things you need to remember before buying and using peppermint oil. Always buy from a reputable source because herbal remedies have a high chance of being contaminated. As mentioned earlier, peppermint oil is generally safe. However, it should be avoided by the following:
After using peppermint oil as a breathing mask, massage your temples. To do this, take your pointer and middle finger to the temples of your forehead, then apply medium pressure and draw circles in a backward motion. After this, work your fingers straight back through your hair along your scalp until they meet behind your head. Wrap your hair between your fingers and gently pull your hair behind you away from your head. Do this while keeping your hands close to the scalp. Finally, run your hands down the back of your head, neck, along your collarbones, and out through your shoulder. Repeat this pattern as many times as you want.
This technique not only provides relief for headaches, but also any type of sharp pain. By visualizing your breath, you are allowing more oxygen into your body and relieving tension by focusing your mind.
To do this, close your eyes and get a clear understanding of where the pain is in your head. Once you find the location of the pain, imagine drawing a circle around it. With your eyes still closed, breathe in and visualize a thin white stream of air moving directly into that circle. Watch the white color as it fills the circle of pain.
After that, exhale while picturing a thin red stream of air leaving the circle, moving out through your nose, and dispersing in the space in front of you. Repeat these steps five to 10 times, or until you find relief.
These remedies only take a few minutes, so it’s ideal for busybodies. These are even greater fixes because they are natural and won’t cause side effects, unlike pain-relieving drugs. Learn more about relieving headaches naturally at Remedies.news.
